Intermediate Corsetry

Essentials:

Two Day Course 9am - 5pm

Dates: 22nd - 23rd June 2024 

Cost: £225 for the course, all materials included

Skill level required: Students should have attended the Moody Corsetry Beginners corset making course, or be confident in producing single layer corsets.

Description:

On this course each student will develop their corset making skills, covering multi layer corsets, pattern drafting and other couture techniques to really elevate your corsetry.
PLEASE NOTE: You will not be making a complete corset during this course but rather a series of samples demonstrating your new skills.

 

Skill areas covered:

  • Pattern draping (draping on the stand) and pattern manipulation

  • Fitting techniques

  • Multilayered corsets – covering roll pining, pad-stitching, fusing and lining insertion

  • Different seaming techniques

  • Inserting a split busk with a modesty placket and/or a covered busk

  • Cording

  • Flossing

 

At the end of the course you will have a selection of “samples” demonstrating the skills you have learned.

Materials

Your course fee covers all the materials required for this course including:

  • Drapers tape and calico for draping on the stand

  • Paper, and tools for pattern development

  • Coutil,binding cord and embroidery thread

  • Busk and boning

  • Thread

  • A choice of fabrics from the Moody Corsetry stash for use as your lining and fashion fabrics.

 

You are welcome to bring along your own fashion fabric should you so wish, please discuss viable options when booking your place.

 

 

Equipment:

You have the option to bring your own sewing machine or to borrow one of our collection of vintage sewing machines. These vintage machines are often used by corset makers for their strength and durability.

 

If you chose to bring your own machine please ensure you are familiar with it (can thread it, change a presser foot or needle etc), and please also bring with you spare needles to fit your machine.

 

All other equipment will be provided.

Location:

The course will be held at Moody Corsetry Studio, a dedicated sewing space alongside the Moody family home.  The studio is in Salfords, Surrey -  a 2 minute walk from Salfords train station (just 40 minutes from London Bridge), and just 5 miles from Gatwick Airport.  There is ample, free on-street parking.

 

For any student wishing to attend from further afield we are also within a short walk from the Premier Inn hotel for overnight accommodation.

 

Tea, Coffee, soft drinks, and biscuits etc will be provided. We ask students to bring along a packed lunch.
