Baby Steps!
Well its been a long time since I have blogged and I apologise. Its been all go at MC HQ so I thought I’d give you a little update and let you know what the future holds! I’ve posted a lot of information about Moody Corsetry goings on on social media, but I appreciate not everyone is on Facebook and Instagram so I’ll try to catch you guys up.
Back at the beginning of 2018 my husband and I started work on brand new headquarters for Moody Corsetry. Yes we will be moving!! All of a few feet, from the spare bedroom in our home to a purpose built garden studio. This has been something we’ve been meaning to do for a while but we have finally pulled our socks up and got on with it. Once complete this will provide me with an entirely separate work space from the house, which will allow for a more professional and private work space for fittings etc. I am hopeful this is also provide me with the space to enable me to start teaching again.

When we first embarked on the project we looked at both “kit” garden studios (essentially delivered in panels and assembled on site) and having a building custom made. We soon discovered that none of the kit structures suited the space we had, and having a design built for us was going to be far too expensive… So, somewhat foolishly, we have decided to build it ourselves. And when I say “ourselves” I mean my husband is doing it, with some friends. If you are interested in following our progress on the build you can follow it on Instagram via @thecorsetcabin
So far we have sunk foundations and built the subfloor which was completed during early summer. Then all building was stopped while my husband completed his final assignment for his Open University Degree! Work has now started up again and I am crossing all appendages that it will be, at the very least, water tight by March because….
We are expecting a baby!
Mini Moody Mark 2 ETA March 2019
Yes our second child is expected to arrive at some point towards the end of March 2019, and this time it’s a boy.
So far this pregnancy hasn’t been an easy one, and that combined with the stress of the studio build (now with a hard deadline as we are going to need the spare bedroom back for our growing family) I decided to take a step back from commission work with Moody Corsetry. I am focusing on some personal corsetry projects, my own design work and collaborations. As such I have now closed my books to commissions, and will then go on maternity leave in February. I am expecting to be opening my books again in early 2020.
I will be using this time to create a collection of sorts. I will be remaking (with some tweaks) some of my favourite patterns I have developed for my clients over the last 5 years or so, all in the same colour pallet and fabrics to create a “catalogue” of my work. The collection will include approximately 10 corsets in a mixtures of sizes. So far I have made two, and have nearly completed a third… so it’s slow going with everything else that's going on at the moment.

Making this collection allows me to refine some of my older patterns, continue working on my finishing skills and provide me with a body of work I can be proud of. As I am working to my own timeline on these pieces it take the pressure off, as I don’t have hard deadlines to work to.
In between making these pieces I am also creating a select few corsets (mostly to break up the monotony of working in the same colour pallet all the time) for collaborations with photographers and models. I will also be loaning out the collection pieces for photoshoots. If you’re a photographer or model who would like to work with my designs please do get in touch.
All in all this should mean that Moody Corsetry wont be completely silent during my Maternity Leave, there will still be exciting things happening so keep you’re eyes peeled!
