This piece was my Foundations Revealed Competition entry in 2018.
Inspired by the Muslin Moth, this is a cupped corset and is made using black cotton coutil for strength and two layers of loose weave muslin. The cups are of moulded foam and have an underwire. There is a diamond of black cotton velvet at the breastbone which is embellished with Victorian jet beading.
The center front panel of this corset is heavily boned and features delicate frills to mimic the fluffy quality of the moth.
The “wings” of the moth are constructed of the same loose weave muslin, artfully draped over the hips and embellished with satin ribbon to form the veins and hand applied black velvet.
All edges of this fabric are left raw to suit the aesthetic.
The corset is set with black two-part eyelets at the back and laced with both black and white satin ribbon.
The laced measurements are:
Center front: 13 inches
There is a detailed blog post about the construction and inspiration behind this piece here.
Please note this corset is not lined.
Matching frilly knickers are available upon request.
This is a sample piece from my collection, and has been worn on photoshoots but is still in perfect condition. The corset has been priced to reflect this.
